Ali Erbas said some 200,000 people all over Turkey have received Quran memorization permission and nearly 80,000 others are taking Quran memorization courses, TRT Arabic reported.
He said Diyanet’s objective is to train more memorizers of the Holy Book so that the number will reach 840,000, namely one percent of the entire population.
The official added that Quranic courses in Turkey are organized for men and women in all age groups, including those who are illiterate.
The lessons offered feature memorization and recitation of the Quran, Tafseer (interpretation) and other Quranic sciences, he stated.
In remarks last year, Erbas had said some 1700 Quranic courses were organized in 81 provinces of Turkey in the summer of 2021.
He said more than 71,000 people took the courses, which were taught by over 6,800 Quran teachers.
In Turkey, Diyanet is responsible for supervising Quranic and religious activities.
